We have two book clubs at Ardrey Kell. The Literary Society and the Turn the Page Book Club.
The first one is our The Literary Society. The purpose of the book club is to unite people who share an interest in reading. The club will promote literature and reading for pleasure. We meet once a month in the Media Center where we discuss a book chosen by the students. We enjoy light refreshments and each other’s company. We also do community service throughout the year to encourage reading.
We will meet each month at 2:30 in the Media Center.

Our second book club is “Turn the Page”- What a Novel Idea!
Our Moto “A book recognizes everyone as capable."
The Turn the Page Book Club is a social program that offers monthly opportunities for students with developmental disabilities (DD) to read and learn together, talk about books, and make friends in a relaxed school setting. This is a new program that was started by Media Specialist, Lisa Pfeuffer, at Ardrey Kell High School. The purpose is to provide adolescents with DD – regardless of reading ability – the chance to be members of a book club. The Turn the Page Book Club consists of 35 students with disabilities and about 25 student volunteers. The DD students are paired with a student volunteer for a one on one approach. The club meets in the school Media center one week a month. We chose a different book each month to read aloud. Then we discuss what we have read and do an activity that reinforces the book we just finished. We celebrate our reading with refreshments and social time at the end of that week!
